Checked in to room 2016 only to find out that it was cockroach-infested (found about 20). My parents also found cockroaches in their room (rm 2015), though not nearly as many. The staff said they'd help us change rooms after sending a person to check; the person who came was a cleaning lady who kill
ed the cockroaches with a rag then made it seem like the problem was solved. In my experience, seeing so many cockroaches means that there are many more that are hidden, and the only solution is to bring in pest control. She also vacuumed the room since the floor was dirty, but failed to vacuum the aisles between the beds.
I had to complain to get our room changed. But the new room was similar to the first in that the floor wasn't vacuumed, so we asked for another room. Went to that room and it was the exact same. Noticed that the hallways of each room was the same, too - not vacuumed. So went back to the 2nd room and asked that they vacuum. The cleaning lady came and I had to make sure that she vacuumed between the beds and behind the nightstands. It looked like the corners hadn't been vacuumed in a long time. The tables were also sticky, and even though she wiped it with a rag, there was still a lot of sticky residue, so I had to wipe it myself with a wet towel after she left.
The front desk staff felt bad for all the room changes so left us a plate of fruit the next day, which is small compensation for all the trouble. I can't eat it in the room because I'm afraid that the trash may bring cockroaches.
My wife used the lounge on the 6th floor and noted that the tables were dirty with crumbs and the floor not vacuumed. After breakfast we observed the workers not cleaning up tables thoroughly. Used the children's room on the 5th floor and the floor is dirty and not vacuumed, also (not to mention that we had to ask for the lights and A/C to be turned on).
Today, I was in the room when the cleaning staff came and even though there was a supervisor, she didn't observe that the vacuum doesn't work well. For such a hotel, they should really buy stronger vacuums and make sure to vacuum every day.
Overall, this lack of cleanliness is really a management issue. They're not observing closely and giving good feedback to ensure that the hotel stays clean. That's the first step to preventing cockroaches.
There's also a party that happens every night from 6p to past midnight with extremely loud music that blasts across the city. Makes the ocean view not quite worthwhile.
Finally, the breakfast looks really good based on the photos on the elevator screens, but in reality it's only so-so. My guess is that the quality goes down due to the number of people they need to feed.
Giving a 2 because the view is nice and the bedding and bathroom were at least clean, along with the hotel being in a good location with lots of restaurants and stores in walking distance.
