Nha Trang or Phu Quoc in late April, are the beaches really that different?

Hey guys! Planning a couple of weeks somewhere in Vietnam after HCMC, from late April to May 13. Can't decide between Nha Trang and Phu Quoc 😅

We want a bit of local Vietnamese life and enough to do so we don't get bored, but nice beaches matter too. Is Phu Quoc really that much prettier and cleaner, or are they fairly similar around those dates?

We love the heat, so that's not an issue. Just trying to figure out whether the whole 'Phu Quoc is paradise, Nha Trang has grey water' thing is exaggerated.

Timing matters. Phu Quoc can still have decent weather then, while Nha Trang's dry season will be getting going.

Phu Quoc has more of a laid-back island vibe, with VinWonders and lots of beaches. You might need to switch beaches depending on wind, waves and washed-up rubbish. Nha Trang is a proper tourist city with a long beachfront and Vinpearl.

Personally, I'd pick Phu Quoc for beaches when both places are in season, but for your dates I'd lean towards Nha Trang. April and May can be a bit hit-or-miss on Phu Quoc. Worth checking recent posts from both places. You can always move on if you've got time.

Phu Quoc wins on beaches imo.

Slight tangent, but I just read about a speedboat from Vung Tau to Con Dao. Apparently it takes about 3 hours and costs $30 to $50. Anyone been? Are the beaches actually that good? Haven't found anything with that Maldives vibe in Vietnam yet, wondering if this could be it. What's the price situation like there too?
