Looking for dentist in HCMC

Hi everyone, I’m urrently in Ho Chi Minh for a few month. I need to get a crown for my front tooth and have been hearing a lot about Emax. I’m a bit unsure if it’s the right option, so I’d love any recommendations for a reliable, English-speaking dentist here. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

I visited West Coast International Dental at 17-19-21 Ly Tu Trong, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. Their phone number is 028 3825 6999. I had three crowns done and replaced nine large mercury amalgams for a total of $2,000 USD. Each crown cost $440, while the local price is about $200. As someone who has worked as a Surgical Team Medic and Intensive Care Nurse, I can vouch that the clinic is both very hygienic and professional.

Keep in mind that clinics often switch doctors and new ones open all the time. It’s a good idea to check recent reviews and see who’s currently on staff. I once recommended a clinic based on my own visit, but by the time a friend went, there was a new dentist who couldn’t handle the job properly. It’s quite common here for clinics to hire interns, so quality can vary. I suggest reading up on the latest feedback at https://vietnam-dental.com/s/hcmc before making an appointment.

I visited a certain dental clinic (I prefer not to name it) in June 2024 to fix an issue with my tooth. Initially, everything seemed fine, but by August 2024, part of the same tooth broke off again, and I ended up needing a rebuild and a crown.

On top of that, the dentist charged me almost double the price they would charge a local, clearly taking advantage of me and my situation. My current dentist told me that the cavity wasn’t fully cleaned, the tooth was left way too small, packed with cement, and no post or reinforcement was used. No wonder it barely lasted two months before breaking!

I feel completely ripped off and wouldn’t recommend that clinic at all. I even have pictures to prove I was an actual patient there.

I went in to have a lower retainer removed, and although it ended up costing more than I expected, things seemed fine at first. They mentioned they could make me a new set of retainers for 1 million VND (turns out they meant a single piece, not a pair). Thinking it was a good deal, I booked a cleaning and made time in my schedule to get them done.

When I returned, they performed a quick 10-minute cleaning that wasn’t thorough at all, then took molds for the retainers. They left quite a bit of cement in my mouth and didn’t offer any floss or additional cleaning.

When it came time to pay, they wanted 2 million VND for the retainers—essentially the same price I used to pay back in England! That was a definite no for me. I contacted them to explain my frustration, and they offered me some floss if I came back. I have no intention of ever returning.
